“The Last Dinner Party” is an indie rock band from London that in a short period of time has captured the hearts of audiences not only in the UK, but also around the world. Formed in 2021, the band has already won several prestigious awards, including a Brit Awards nomination for “Rising Star” and the number one spot on BBC Radio’s “Sound of 2024”.
The band currently consists of five talented members, Abigail Morris (vocals), Lizzie Mayland (vocals, guitar), Emily Roberts (lead guitar, mandolin, flute), Georgia Davies (bass) and Aurora Nishevci (keys, vocals). Although the band was formed in 2021, its members’ journey started even earlier. They first met in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented them from rehearsing together. Finally, in November 2021, The Last Dinner held their first live performance at “The George” tavern in London.
The girl group’s popularity began to grow even before the first song was released, when The Last Dinner Party held their third live performance in April 2022, catching the attention of South London videographer Lou Smith. He filmed the performance and shared it on his “YouTube” channel. This not only helped the band to reach a wider audience, but also opened up new opportunities in the music industry. In the same year, they had the unique opportunity to open for the legendary band “The Rolling Stones”, which also caught the attention of listeners and critics. Last Dinner Party received an even bigger wave of attention with the release of the single “Nothing Matters”. However, the main breakthrough happened in 2024, when the band released their debut album “Prelude to Ecstasy”, which reached number one on the UK charts.
The band’s journey began under a slightly different name. Initially, the band was called “The Dinner Party”, inspired by the idea of a huge, debauched dinner party with a hedonistic banquet. However, when they found out about an art installation with the same name, they changed their name to “The Last Dinner Party” to avoid mess.
“The Last Dinner Party” is inspired by various historical periods and styles, such as Gothic, Romanticism, Medieval, and various poems and fairy tales. This diversity is influenced by Abby and Georgie’s studied literature at university. Through their music, the group aims to introduce audiences to new worlds that may have previously seemed unfamiliar or uninteresting. As the band’s bassist Georgie says: “[…] we want to lead people to other things through music. If they are young and not encouraged to learn certain things at school, our lyrics can be a way for them to go and explore certain books or literature. It’s a way to develop your own world of art and senses, and if we can do that, we’ve achieved something.”
Uniqueness and theatricality of “The Last Dinner Party” reflects not only in their music, but also during their concerts. Fans often dress in styles inspired by the band, incorporating elements of the gothic, romanticism and medieval periods into their outfits. This not only gives the concerts a special atmosphere, but also allows the fans to become more deeply immersed in the artistic vision of the band. Many fans choose to wear dark, dramatic outfits with details from lace, velvet and leather, so like this concerts become a visual feast.
“The Last Dinner Party” has chosen the traditional route to stay on in the music spotlight. In today’s world, where rock bands often struggle to gain attention, they have decided to prioritise live performances over creating social media hits. “The Last Diner Party” is currently on tour, during which will visit 16 countries and perform 59 concerts.
